Just Released: OIG Status Update on Recommendations
The BART Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has released its Status Update on Recommendations report, providing an overview of the implementation status of recommendations issued through OIG audits and investigations.
The report highlights BART’s progress in addressing recommendations intended to strengthen internal controls, improve operations, and mitigate identified risks, while also identifying recommendations that remain open or were reopened following testing.
Key highlights include:
- 63 open recommendations
- 44 recommendations issued in FY26
- 13 recommendations open more than two years
- 81% of tested recommendations remain implemented
- 6 recommendations reopened following testing
BART has made progress in addressing OIG recommendations, with many corrective actions successfully integrated into operations. However, several recommendations remain open, including some outstanding for multiple years. In some cases, corrective actions are still in progress without clearly defined timelines, limiting accountability, while others were not sustained and required reopening.
Because OIG recommendations are designed to address risks related to fraud, waste, inefficiencies, and control weaknesses, delays or incomplete implementation allow these risks to persist. This report provides a clear, evidence-based view of what has been completed, what remains in progress, and where continued delays expose the District to risk.
We encourage you to review the summary video and full report for detailed insights.
